Huichol Art

The Huichol are one of the indigenous groups that have best conserved their traditions and their artistic and cultural characteristics. This is because they live in isolated communities near the Sierra Occidental (Western Sierra Madre) in the states of Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit and Zacatecas.

Huichol art is recognized around the world due to its originality and colorfulness. Huichol art allows us to enter and view part of the Huichol world, for their artwork represents stories and legends of their worldview. Generally, works of Huichol art are crafted using small beads (chaquiras) or string attached to wood using wax from Campeche.

Works of Huichol art are a link to the worldview of this indigenous people. By owning a work of their art we can get closer to their roots and at the same time support the conservation of their traditions and the creation of their artistic works.
