Trees of Life
Miniature (2)
Small (6)
Medium (3)

The Trees of Life are works of art made with red clay baked at low temperatures. They are shaped like a chandelier and have only one front, which is decorated as a tree and with bas-reliefs. Most of these works are decorated with animals or vegetation, which are attached to the chandelier-like base of the tree with a wire. The trees are painted with acrylic paints, and can be either ochre colored or lively. The Trees Of Life generally represent the allegories of Eden, Noah’s Arc, or elements of nature such as animals, flowers, etc.

In Mexico we have a tradition that is renowned worldwide: the cult of the afterlife. For this reason, many artisans have incorporated this cult onto their trees, calling them “Arboles de la Muerte” (Trees of the Afterlife). These are handmade with the same procedure as the Trees of Life. The only difference is the decoration, where calacas, calaveras and catrinas (stylized, colorful skulls and skeletons) represent the afterlife.

The Trees of Life are an example of the creativity, originality and quality of Mexican artisans. They are the result of a long process which begins with the creation of the work in clay. The clay is then baked, then painted with acrylic that takes one month to fully dry. These works of art are unique and a display of the richness of Mexican culture. By buying them you help the production of these wonderful artworks and the conservation of our traditions.
